Anthony Joshua Says He’s ‘Desperate To Get My Hands Back’ On The Heavyweight Titles
Anthony Joshua says he is desperate to get his hands back on his titles.
Joshua is set to rematch Oleksandr Usyk on August 20 in Saudi Arabia as he is fighting for the WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO titles which he lost last time out. This is the chance for Joshua to become a three-time heavyweight champ and for him, he says that is not where he wanted to be as he would’ve rather held onto the titles in the beginning.
“Someone said to me ‘You got the chance to become a three-time heavyweight champion of the world.’ I said that it’s not really where you want to be,” Joshua admitted during the London leg of a two-city press tour to promote the August 20 rematch with Usyk. “It’s not a route I would advise young people to travel. “You want to keep it, stay there and keep it.”
Anthony Joshua has also made some clear changes in his camp for the rematch as he has changed coaches as he looks to reclaim the belts. He has admitted he knows what he did wrong against Oleksandr Usyk the first time and is confident he will get the titles back on August 20.
“I’m definitely desperate to get my hands back on [the titles],” insists Joshua. “Too much talking for me. Less talking, more action. Let me just get in there and do my job. I’m not a comedian, not someone who writes speeches. I’m definitely hungry, definitely desperate. At the end of the day, how I perform will speak volumes to the masses.”
Joshua, as mentioned, is coming off the loss to Usyk last September. Prior to that, he knocked out Kubrat Pulev to defend his belts after reclaiming them in a win over Andy Ruiz Jr. in the Middle East.
