Adrien Broner Plans ‘To Take The Fight To’ Omar Figueroa
Adrien Broner is excited to fight Omar Figueroa and he believes he will eventually get the stoppage win.
Broner is set to make his return against the former world champion in a 12-round super lightweight scrap headlining a card on Showtime on Saturday, August 20 from Hard Rock Live at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.
It’s a big fight for both men as the former world champions look to try and enter the title picture once again. For Broner, he says the plan is to bring the fight to Figueroa and get him out of there to make a statement win.
“I’m going in there to try to stop Figueroa,” said Broner. “I’m going to take the fight to him and go ahead and get him out of there. What I expect from him is the same gruesome Figueroa that we always see. He’ll try to make it a rough fight. Every fighter is different, but I don’t think he’ll be hard to hit. So, I’ll see ya’ll on August 20.’’
Broner is coming off a decision win over Jovanie Santiago in February of 2021 to return to the win column after two years away following a loss to Manny Pacquiao. Omar Figueroa, meanwhile, is on a two-fight losing streak after losing by stoppage to Abel Ramos and to kick off the skid, he suffered a decision loss to Yordenis Ugas.
For Figueroa, he says he now has a clear mindset and believes that will lead him to getting the win over Broner.
“I’m excited to move on to the next phase of my life and career, especially now that my mental health is at the forefront of everything I do,” said Figueroa. “Having a clear mind has been the best thing to happen to me. Now I’m able to focus 100% on my boxing career and I can’t wait to be back in the ring on August 20.”
