Adrien Broner Withdraws From Omar Figueroa Jr. Fight Citing Mental Health

Adrien Broner has withdrawn from his fight against Omar Figueroa Jr. due to mental health.

The fight between ex-titleholders were set to headline a four-fight Showtime Championship Boxing telecast from Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida on Saturday, and now the card will now be without the main event. On Monday, it was revealed Broner was forced out of the fight due to mental health.

“Man, I’m going [through] a lot at this moment in my life, but I ain’t go give up,” Broner stated Monday morning on social media. “I set some more goals and I finish what I started but sorry to say this but I’m not fighting August 20th.” 

The news is disappointing as Broner vs. Figueora Jr. was going to be a massive fight for both men. Broner has also not been as active as he wanted to due to multiple reasons.

Adrien Broner (34-4-1 and one No Contest) is coming off the decision win over Jovanie Santiago back in February in his return to the sport after the decision loss to Manny Pacquiao. Before the loss to Pacquiao, he had a draw against Jessie Vargas and a decision loss to Mikey Garcia.

Broner is the former WBA super lightweight champion as being the WBA welterweight champion. He started out his career 27-0 including beating Paulie Malignaggi to win the WBA welterweight title. In his career, he holds notable wins over Gavin Rees, John Molina Jr., and Ashley Theophane among others.

Omar Figueroa (28-2-1) is on a two-fight losing streak as he suffered a stoppage loss to Abel Ramos back in May of 2021 after losing a decision to Yordenis Ugas in July of 2019. In his career, he holds notable wins over Molina Jr., Ricky Burns, Jerry Belmontes, Robert Guerrero, and Nihito Arakawa among others.
