Luis Ortiz Knows Andy Ruiz Jr. Is Dangerous But Believes His Speed Will Be The Difference

Luis Ortiz is well-aware of the danger that Andy Ruiz Jr. is a dangerous opponent.

The two are set to headline a PBC boxing pay-per-view on Sunday night at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. It’s a big fight and a fight that Ortiz is really excited about.

“Cuba versus Mexico — two great countries. We’re both warriors. Not one single Mexican is a p-ssy. They are all tough, rough, rugged fighters who’ve earned respect. Cubans are the same way. He’s a little throwback of a Mexican fighter,” Ortiz told a group of reporters, through a translator (via BoxingScene).

Heading into the fight, Ortiz is on a two-fight winning streak since he suffered a KO loss to Deontay Wilder in 2019 for the WBC heavyweight title. The Cuban beat Charles Martin by TKO in a comeback win and before that, knocked out Alexanders Flores in the first-round, showing he still is dangerous at 43-year-old.

Ruiz Jr., meanwhile, hasn’t fought since last May when he defeated Chris Arreola by decision after his loss to Anthony Joshua in the rematch. Out of his 34 wins, 22 have come by KO which is why Luis Ortiz knows he is dangerous. However, the Cuban is confident his speed will be the difference as he thinks his hands are just as fast as Ruiz Jr. which is where he will have success.

“Andy is very dangerous. There is no doubt about that. He’s proved it many times over. There isn’t a heavyweight who is willing to get in the ring and is not a dangerous fighter. I am very cautious of that every time I get into the ring,” said Ortiz. “My hands are going to do the talking in the ring. I don’t move in slow motion or reverse. My hands are just as fast.”
