Floyd Mayweather Opens Up On Exhibition Bout With Mikuru Asakura In September
Floyd Mayweather will be returning to the ring when he takes on Japanese mixed martial artist Mikuru Asakura in the main event of a RIZIN fight card on September 25.
The match will be a boxing fight and is another exhibition fight for Mayweather. He has also worked with RIZIN before, as in 2018 he scored a TKO win over Tenshin Nasukawa. To promote the fight, the two had a press conference in Hawaii and Mayweather was full of trash-talk and let him know he will be in trouble from the opening bell.
“Until you make money like I do stop talking,” Mayweather said at the press conference. “Stop wearing dorky clothes and start wearing the TMT clothes which are much cooler than yours. I know it’s just an exhibition match but with a single punch I can guarantee you that his stomach is going to swell up like an eggplant. [Our punches] are as different as a jet plane and a fly, so I look forward to having a match against him.”
Although Floyd Mayweather is also 45-years-old, he says he won’t be training as much as he usually does for this fight. Instead, he says he knows what he needs to do in the ring so is confident he will be able to use his memory to win this bout.
“We don’t train as much when we were competing,” Mayweather said. “When we were competing we were competing against the biggest and best in the sport of boxing. So now we doing a little — we may train a few days and let the body rest a few days, train a few days, rest a few days. We don’t really train too much. We just travel and enjoy life. As far as boxing and competing at the highest level I did it for so long. When it’s time to go out there and do what I gotta do, I got that on lock.”
