Isaac Cruz Wants Rematch With Gervonta Davis, Says The Fans Want It
Isaac Cruz is hoping to run things back with Gervonta Davis.
Cruz fought Davis in December of 2021 and lost a controversial decision as many thought the Mexican should’ve gotten his hand raised. Since then, he defeated Yuriorkis Gamboa by TKO and knocked out Eduardo Rodriguez back in September and now he is calling for the rematch with Davis.
“I was ready to win at all costs, for my family and what better way to win than here in front of all the great fans in Los Angeles,” Cruz said after the win, before setting his sights on his prior conqueror. “We want the rematch with Gervonta Davis. That’s what these fans want. I promised the knockout tonight and we got it done.”
Although Cruz wants the fight against Davis, it’s uncertain if he will get it. Davis seems like he wants bigger fights like Ryan Garcia or Devin Haney while the Cruz fight is not as big of paydays as those.
In the fight against Cruz, Davis says he hurt his hand which is why he struggled in the bout. With that, Davis was still happy to win with an injury but perhaps he would take the rematch so he could get the stoppage win.
“I hurt my left hand in probably the sixth round,” Davis told Showtime’s Jim Gray after the fight. “It is what it is, that’s what comes with the sport. I felt that later in the fight, he was breaking down, but I hurt my hand so I couldn’t get him out of there.”
