Keith Thurman Claims Errol Spence Jr. Hasn’t Fought Any Athletic Fighters
Keith Thurman is critical of Errol Spence Jr. and who he has fought.
Spence Jr. is considered to be one of, if not the best welterweight in the world and one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. However, Thurman thinks Spence Jr. hasn’t fought anyone athletic or crafty fighters like Terence Crawford or himself.
Of course, Spence Jr. and Crawford are in talks to make the fight happen which would be one of the biggest in boxing. If he does take that fight, Thurman says he will have no critiques about his record or who he has fought.
“What I haven’t seen Spence face is what I believe myself and Crawford bring to the table, which is, obviously, somebody who has that IQ of that Olympic pedigree,” Thurman said on the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer. “And then besides that it’s the athleticism. You know? He hasn’t fought athletic, crafty, fast-twitch…I don’t know enough of Crawford’s power. We’ve seen him do damage.”
Errol Spence Jr. is 28-0 and coming off a TKO win over Yordenis Ugas while in his career he does have notable wins over Danny Garcia, Mikey Garcia, Shawn Porter, and Kell Brook among others. He’s also the current WBA, IBF, and WBC welterweight champion, and if the fight against Crawford doesn’t happen, Thurman believes he is a viable opponent for him.
“I still consider Spence the bigger puncher, I consider him the bigger man, the bigger puncher,” Thurman said. “All it takes is the right punch to finish a fight, not the biggest punch. The athleticism, seeing Spence fight a Crawford, seeing Spence fight a Thurman, is just a test that he’s truly never been up against.”
