Bob Arum Plans To ‘Do Everything’ To Make Devin Haney vs. Vasyl Lomachenko Next
Bob Arum is hoping to make Devin Haney vs. Vasyl Lomachenko next.
On Saturday, Lomachenko picked up a decision win over Jamaine Ortiz in a much closer fight than many expected. The former champ pulled away late to get the nod and after the victory, Lomachenko talked about wanting to fight for titles again.
“I’m happy. I’m happy to come back in the ring and make this a great show,” Lomachenko said. “Thank you to my fans for the support. You know what motivated me. Four belts! Look, I’m ready. I’m ready for any option.”
Now, the hope for Lomachenko’s promoter, Bob Arum is to make Devin Haney vs. Vasyl Lomachenko. If the bout is made, it would be massive and would secure whoever wins legacy as one of the best to ever do it.
“The fight to make in the lightweight division is Haney versus Lomachenko, and we will do everything we can to make the undisputed championship showdown that all fight fans want to see. They are the world’s premier lightweights, and it would be a fantastic battle,” Arum said.
Should it happen next, Haney is also expecting a much better Lomachenko as Haney didn’t think Lomachenko looked very good against Ortiz.
“I think it wasn’t the best performance, but I know if me and Loma were to fight, we’d see a better version on the night. Congratulations, and hopefully we can get it on,” Haney said.
Devin Haney (29-0) is coming off back-to-back decision win over George Kambosos Jr. to win and defend the WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles. Prior to that, he has notable wins over Joseph Diaz, Jorge Linares, Yuriorkis Gamboa, and Zaur Abdullaev.
Vasyl Lomachenko (17-2) is now on a three-fight winning streak with wins over Ortiz, Richard Commey, and Masayoshi Nakatani after losing his belts to Teofimo Lopez.
