Bob Arum Says He’ll Pay A Great Purse For Any Prominent Middleweight To Fight Janibek Alimkhanuly
Bob Arum is hoping to get Janibek Alimkhanuly a big fight next time out.
Alimkhanuly is a perfect 12-0 as a pro and is set to fight Denzel Dignum on Saturday as he defends his WBO middleweight title. Yet, he hasn’t fought the top-level fighters many want to see, so Arum says he will pay a big purse to get a top-level middleweight to fight him.
“If he takes care of business like I expect him to [against Bentley], then, you know, we’ll make a date available for any prominent middleweight that wants to step into the ring and fight him,” Arum told BoxingScene.com. “And we’ll pay him a great purse. I’m not gonna call out different names and so forth because all of these names that I would call out have promoters and they take exception. They say I’m trying to poach their fighter, that kind of sh*t. So, all I’m saying is that any top, top middleweight that wants to make a good purse and is willing to fight this guy, we’ll finance it and put on the fight.”
One potential opponent would be fellow countryman Gennady Golovkin which would be huge. ‘GGG’ is coming off the loss to Canelo Alvarez but still remains a top-tier fighter and in the title picture.
Other possible names for Janibek Alimkhanuly is Jermall Charlo, Demetrius Andrade or Jaime Munguia. As the hope for the champ is to prove just how good he is as he is annoyed he can’t fight the top boxers.
“I don’t know why nowadays champions is not fighting with the champions,” Alimkhanuly said. “I don’t think they should be afraid. I am here. I am a champion now. I am here to fight the champions. And hopefully, Top Rank can organize my next fight to fight with a champion.”
