Tyson Fury Believes It Would Be A ‘Travesty’ If He Never Fights Anthony Joshua
Tyson Fury says he needs to fight Anthony Joshua before his career is up.
Fury and Joshua were linked to fighting one another in December, but the two sides couldn’t reach a deal. Now, Fury will face Derek Chisora on December 3 and after that, many are hoping he will face Oleksandr Usyk. Yet, the hope for Fury he and Joshua will also meet sometime in the near future.
“I don’t think I can retire today,” Fury said to The High Performance podcast (h/t BoxingScene). “Because I need that Joshua fight. We have been trying to make that fight for years. It’s the fight that people want to see. It’s the fight that I want to see as a boxing fan.
“For the last four or five years, there has been this three-headed monster: me, Wilder, Joshua. Joshua and Wilder have been slain, and I’m the last one standing,” Fury continued. “All of a sudden, you’ve got some new people coming up now – Joe Joyce, Daniel Dubois, Usyk’s gate-crashed the party. Now there’s a load of new blood that wasn’t there five years ago and it’s like, ‘can you beat this person?’. But I think it would be an absolute dying travesty if me and Joshua didn’t fight in this era.”
If Anthony Joshua can get a win or two, the fight with Tyson Fury still will be massive, especially if ‘The Gypsy King’ remains the heavyweight champ. It would be a massive fight in the UK – and the hope would be the fight would take place there.
Yet, before it can happen, Fury will need to beat Chisora, who he’s fighting for the third time. As for Joshua, he does not have his next fight booked but several opponents have called him out.
