Hector Luis Garcia Hoping For A War Against Gervonta Davis
Hector Luis Garcia is hoping to slug it out with Gervonta Davis on January 7.
Garcia and Davis are set to headline a pay-per-view card on January 7 in what may have called a tune-up fight due to the fact Davis is already booked to fight Ryan Garcia next. However, Garcia is confident he has the tools to pull off the massive upset, as he wants to turn this fight into a war.
“Now this is an opportunity for me to elevate myself after a long career that has seen me succeed plenty,” said Hector Luis Garcia to Premier Boxing Champions about his fight against Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis on January 7th. These are the kind of fights that I truly need right now. Gervonta, we are working 100% towards giving fans a war. We are both here, and I am ready to prove why I’m here and why I got the chance to face off against you.”
Although Davis already has his next fight booked, he has been vocal in saying he is not overlooking Garcia as he knows Garcia can make this a tough fight.
“I’m definitely not sleeping on him or overlooking him. You saw what he did against Colbert,” Davis said in a Twitter Spaces conversation hosted by @LazyLeftyOG (via BoxingScene). “I know that he’s technical. He’s got a little pop. I just want to put on a great performance. I’m going back and watching tape and studying him. I’m not a guy who overlooks my opponent just because social media says someone is trash or anything like that. I don’t think he’s trash.”
Hector Luis Garcia enters his fight with a record of 16-0 and three No Contests and is the WBA super featherweight champion. Last time out, he scored a decision win over Roger Gutierrez to become the new champ. In his career, he holds notable wins over Chris Colbert and Anvar Yunusov among others.
