Joseph Parker Knows If He Loses To Jack Massey He’s Out Of The Title Picture
Joseph Parker knows his upcoming fight against Jack Massey is a massive one for his career.
Parker is set to take on Massey on January 21 as Massey is set to move up to heavyweight for the fight. However, Parker will enter the scrap coming off a KO loss to Joe Joyce but he is confident he is going to beat Massey with ease.
“I’m going to smash him,” Parker said of his looming bout with Massey (via BoxingScene). “He’s got big balls I’ll give him that. But there are divisions in boxing for a reason. I’m going to be the bigger man. I’m going to fight like the bigger man, back him up and push him back. I’m going to make him think about if he really wants to be in the heavyweight division.”
Although Parker is 30-3 as a pro, he knows if he loses to Massey – who is not a top contender – it likely ends his chances of fighting for a belt again. With that, he says that is motivating him as he knows this is a crucial fight for his career.
“Let’s face it, if I lose I will be way down [the standings]. It will be like ‘where is Joseph Parker?’ I’ll be out of the picture,” Parker said. “I’m in great shape. I’m ready to go. When I’m sleeping well and feeling good I am dangerous. I’ve put in the work, made the sacrifices, because I know what it takes to win.”
Joseph Parker (30-3) is coming off the KO loss to Joyce for the WBO interim heavyweight strap. The loss snapped his six-fight winning streak with wins over Derek Chisora, twice, Junior Fa, and Alexander Flores among others. He has proven he is among the heavyweight best and Parker knows he has to run through Massey on Saturday to cement that.
