Eddie Hearn Says If Anthony Joshua Loses To Jermaine Frankin ‘We’ve Got A Major Problem’
Eddie Hearn knows Anthony Joshua‘s fight against Jermaine Franklin is massive for his career.
Joshua is set to return on April 1 against Franklin at the O2 Arena in London, likely against Franklin. Although it is not a top contender as many wanted, Hearn says it still is a crucial fight for Joshua.
“There’s a lot of pressure to come back,” Hearn told BBC 5 Live Boxing. “Because if AJ don’t win that fight, then we’ve got a major problem.”
Although Anthony Joshua is on a two-fight losing skid, Eddie Hearn believes the Brit is still a top-three heavyweight and will still hold a heavyweight title again.
“I’m telling you now this guy is still a top three heavyweight in the world capable of regaining his world heavyweight title on April the 1st at the O2 Arena , probably against Jermaine Franklin,” Hearn said. “You will see the return of Anthony Joshua. Honestly I believe you will see a statement from a guy who is very dangerous, very motivated to become a three-time heavyweight champion.”
However, even though Hearn thinks Joshua is a top-three heavyweight, many are critical of the matchup against Franklin. Frankin is coming off a decision loss to Whyte, but Hearn says many thought Franklin won which is why they picked him as it will be a tough test for Joshua.
“Tyson Fury has just beat Deontay Wilder, just beat Dillian Whyte and then fought Derek Chisora,” Hearn said. “Anthony Joshua’s got defeat to Usyk, defeat to Usyk, and fighting Jermaine Franklin who many feel beat Dillian Whyte. I mean, it’s a really tough fight.”
