Joe Joyce Believes Tyson Fury Fight Would Be Easy To Set Up After Oleksandr Usyk Bout Falls Through
Joe Joyce is hoping to fight Tyson Fury next time out after the Oleksandr Usyk fight fell through.
Fury and Usyk were supposed to fight on April 29 but the bout had fallen through due to contract negotiations. With that, it’s uncertain who Fury will face next, but Joyce is looking to secure the fight against ‘The Gypsy King’ with a win over Zhilei Zhang on April 15.
“Yeah I’m ready to step in. I’m scheduled to fight Zhang first – that’s a massive fight – so I’ll do that first. Fury said he wanted to face me if he didn’t fight Usyk. Of course I’ve go to beat up big Zhilei first,” Joyce told Daily Mail. “It would be very easy to set up. We’re both with Frank Warren. He’s already said he wants to fight me, it’s a great fight. People are interested in seeing that fight.”
Although Joe Joyce has a win over Daniel Dubois in November 2020, Dubois is the WBO mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk, which is frustrating for Joyce. Yet, he hopes with a win over Zhang, he can get the bigger fight against Fury next time out.
“I’m not surprised by anything in boxing. I just get on with what I need to do and progress in my career and get the best out of it. I’m looking to be in some great fights this year and next year,” Joyce said. “It can be very frustrating at times, but things go on and fights happen, so let’s make the [Fury] fight happen. Please!”
Joe Joyce (15-0) is coming off a KO win over Joseph Parker to win the interim WBO heavyweight title. Prior to that, he scored a TKO win over Christian Hammer while also holding notable wins over Carlos Takam, Daniel Dubois, and Bryant Jennings.
