Adrien Broner Vows To Become The Undisputed Champion At 140lbs
Adrien Broner still believes he has all the skills to become the undisputed champion again.
Broner hasn’t won a fight at 140lbs in nearly eight years and is fighting at 147lbs on June 9 in Miami against Bill Hutchinson. Although Broner will be a massive favorite, he says Hutchinson is dangerous but he is confident he will win and then pursue the 140lbs titles.
“I know this guy that I’m supposed to fight, he ain’t lost in seven years,” Broner said of Hutchinson (h/t BoxingScene). “And I’m proud to hear that. But, you know, come June 9th, you know, we got some sh!t in store. And we ain’t looking at him like a stepping stone. But, you know, I set some goals to myself that I can’t let myself down. And what I wanna do is I wanna become world champion again under the Don King, you know, stable. So, for me, first I gotta get through Hutchinson. And that’s what I’m gonna do for sure. And then we’re gonna pursue the 140 world titles. And I wanna become the undisputed [champion] at 140 pounds. So, you know, I got big plans and I been working my ass off. And June 9th, I’m gonna put on a show.”
Although Broner believes he can become the champ at 140lbs, he hasn’t fought at that weight since he suffered a loss to Mikey Garcia in 2017. However, he has won world titles in four weight classes so he is confident he can have a lot of success at 140lbs.
Adrien Broner (34-4-1) hasn’t fought since February of 2021 when he beat Jovanie Santiago by decision. Prior to that, he suffered a decision loss to Manny Pacquiao and had a draw against Jessie Vargas and a decision setback against Garcia. In his career, he also holds notable wins over Paulie Malignaggi, Gavin Rees, and Eloy Perez among others.
