Rolly Romero Says Boxing Needs ‘Massive Fight’ Between Him And Ryan Garcia
Rolly Romero is hoping to secure a fight with Ryan Garcia.
Romero is set to face Ismael Barroso on Saturday night in a fight many expect Romero to get his hand raised. If he does, he is back in the running for big fights and eyes a matchup against Garcia if he gets his hand raised.
“There’s definitely the Ryan Garcia fight,” Romero told a small group of reporters (h/t BoxingScene). “I mean, I think everybody’s asking for me versus Ryan right now, especially at 140. You know, we’re both at 140 now. And I think that’s the fight. You know, I think that’s a massive fight and, you know, boxing needs that fight, you know? It has a long buildup – a long, long buildup.”
As well as wanting to get a fight with Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero also plans on eventually getting a rematch with Gervonta Davis. But, Romero is frustrated with 140lbs right now as he feels it is boring and thinks a matchup against Garcia will bring some energy and excitement to the weight class.
“Man, 140 is a boring-ass division,” Romero said. “We’re gonna make this sh*t poppin’. We’re gonna turn it into a pay-per-view division and we’re gonna make it the most fun in boxing.”
Rolly Romero (14-1) hasn’t fought since May of last year when he suffered a sixth-round stoppage loss to Gervonta Davis. Prior to that, he scored a TKO win over Anthony Yigit and also holds notable wins over Jackson Martinez and Avery Sparrow. On Saturday, he is also facing Ismael Barroso for the interim WBA Super lightweight title.
