Eddie Hearn Believes Daniel Dubois’ Punch Was A Low Blow
Eddie Hearn believes Daniel Dubois’ punch was indeed low.
In the fifth round, Dubois landed a body shot that dropped Usyk, but immediately the ref called it low. Usyk had over three minutes to recover and he ended up getting a ninth-round TKO.
However, as the broadcast was showing the replay, many believed the punch was legal and it should have been a knockdown and Dubois would’ve become the new champion.
After the result, Frank Warren said he would be appealing the result while Daniel Dubois said he wants a rematch to get justice as he felt cheated out of a victory.
“This wrong needs to be corrected. This needs to go further, it needs to be pushed. I should be a world champion right now. It wasn’t justice. It needs to be called out and go further than living this lie. They just cheated out there. I definitely want a rematch, get justice, get a rematch, get something to happen,” Dubois told BBC Sport.
However, another promoter, Eddie Hearn who has no horse in this race says he believes the punch was indeed low.
“The entire fist was below the navel, the bottom knuckles miles below. It hit his protector – low blow,” Hearn said in an Instagram Q&A on his story.
Ultimately, there isn’t much Dubois can do now, as Usyk and his team are confident the appeal won’t change anything. But, perhaps the two can eventually rematch which would be a big fight, especially after what happened on Saturday.
