Canelo Alvarez closing as massive betting favorite to defeat Jermell Charlo in upcoming title fight
Seeing an initially scheduled fight with Jermall Charlo fall to the wayside – Mexican middleweight champion, Canelo Alvarez is closing as a significant betting favorite to defeat the Louisana native’s twin brother, Jermell Charlo – at the end of the month in the pair’s championship clash.
Canelo, the current WBA, WBC, IBO, and IBF super middleweight champion, most recently headlined a Mexico homecoming back in May of this year, successfully retaining his championships in a one-sided unanimous decision win over British title challenger, John Ryder in Zapopan.
As for Charlo, the reigning WBO, WBA, WBC, and IBF light middleweight champion, turned in his whopping thirty fifth professional victory back in May also, landing a tenth round KO victory against Brian Castano in Carson, California.
And replacing his twin brother, Jermall Charlo in a championship outing – despite his recent turn of good form since his sole professional loss to Tony Harrison back in 2018, Jermell Charlo is currently sitting as a +275 betting underdog to beat Canelo Alvarez at the end of the month.
For the dominant super middleweight champion, Canelo is currently available on multiple markets as high as a -400 betting favorite to hand 33-year-old Lafayette puncher, Charlo just his second professional defeat.
A host of markets are taking action on wagers and bets on a fight between Canelo and Charlo at the end of the month, offering a host of outright and prop bets on not just boxing – but also UFC betting Germany to boot ahead of a busy fourth quarter of the year for the mixed martial arts outfit and professional boxing.
59-2-2 as a professional, beyond a September 2013 loss to former multiple-time and multiple-weight boxing champion, Floyd Mayweather, Canelo’s sole other loss came in the form of a light heavyweight divisional defeat against Bulgarian champion, Dmitry Bivol.
Revered as one of the most formidable punchers in the sport today – and widely recognized as arguably the greatest boxer of his generation, Canelo, 33, has landed victories over both Gennady Golovkin and the above-mentioned Ryder earlier this year.
And between his losses to Mayweather and Bivol, Canelo had racked up a stunning 16-fight undefeated run – which included triumphs over the likes of Erislandy Lara, James Kirkland, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin, Rocky Fielding, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Daniel Jacobs, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant.
Currently ranked as the tenth best pound-for-pound boxer in the world at the time of publication, Charlo has landed nineteen separate career knockout wins over the course of his thirty seven fight professional run.
First winning WBC middleweight gold back in 2016, Charlo stopped John Jackson with a knockout win, before securing follow-up title fight wins against Charles Hatley, Erickson Lubin, and Austin Trout, before his judging loss to Harrison in 2018.
Rebounding with three consecutive KO wins since then, Charlo avenged his loss to Harrison with a brutal stoppage – in between stoppages of Jorge Cota, and Jeison Rosario.
Long-linked with a title offing against Tim Tszyu, Charlo will first have to topple the immense challenge of Canelo in their September 30. clash before he can switch attention back to the Sydney native.
