Tyson Fury Explains Why Mike Tyson Working With Francis Ngannou Is ‘Sad’
Tyson Fury says it’s sad to see Mike Tyson help train Francis Ngannou to box him next month.
Fury and Ngannou are set to box next month in a highly-anticipated matchup. In the lead-up to the fight, many expect Fury to cruise to a win, but to help the former UFC champ prepare, he has enlisted Mike Tyson as his trainer.
Seeing Mike Tyson train Ngannou makes him sad, as Tyson Fury says he is named after him and is the reason why he’s boxing.
“I think that it’s sad, actually,” Fury told Sky Sports. “The man that I am named after, a legend, has to go against me and then come out as a loser, having lost to a man who was named after him. I think that it’s sad and I think that he should be in my corner, not the opposing corner, but business is business and I understand that it’s strictly business.”
Although Tyson Fury has a ton of respect for Mike Tyson, he doesn’t think the former heavyweight champ will be able to help Francis Ngannou enough.
Instead, Fury has all the confidence in the world that he will beat Ngannou with ease and continue to prove he’s the best heavyweight alive.
“No matter what he teaches this fella, no matter how much boxing training he does, everyone has got a plan until they get punched in the face,” Fury said. “And I’m not sure who said that, but that is true. They’ve all got a plan until they get smacked in the mouth.”
Fury is coming off a TKO win over Derek Chisora back in December and before that, TKO’d Dillian Whyte. He also has the back-to-back knockout wins over Deontay Wilder which really made him the big star he is.
