Frank Warren Disappointed With WBA Verdict Regarding Usyk-Dubois Low Blow
Frank Warren is disappointed that the WBA upheld the result of the Oleksandr Usyk vs. Daniel Dubois fight.
In the fight, Dubois landed a body shot that dropped Usyk, but the ref ruled it a low blow and gave Usyk over four minutes to recover. He ended up scoring a ninth-round stoppage of Dubois to remain the heavyweight champion.
However, after the fight, Warren and Dubois made it clear they would be appealing the result. Months later, the WBA upheld the result and said it was a low blow, which Warren is not happy about.
“I’m disappointed with them not even considering what our complaint was,” Warren told Boxing Social. “What they came back with didn’t even address it. We complained about the referee, as I’ve said on many occasions, not giving specific instructions to both boxers. And for what he did regarding giving the amount of time he did, which was nearly four minutes for Usyk to rest even when he wanted to carry on himself after a low blow that wasn’t even a low blow.”
Not only was he disappointed, but Warren says he will be filing another appeal on the result.
“We will appeal that,” Warren said of the WBA’s decision.
With the loss to Oleksandr Usyk, Daniel Dubois dropped to 19-2 as a pro. He entered the fight as the WBA heavyweight champion as he had beaten Trevor Bryan to win it and defended it against Kevin Lerena. His other loss came to Joe Joyce by KO.
As for Oleksandr Usyk, he is set to box Tyson Fury in Saudi Arabia to unify the heavyweight titles. It’s arguably the biggest fight in boxing and one many fans are looking forward to.
Do you think Daniel Dubois and Frank Warren should have won their appeal?
