Deontay Wilder Thinks Him vs. Joseph Parker Should Be The Main Event
Deontay Wilder thinks he and Joseph Parker should be the main event on Dec. 23 in Saudi Arabia.
Wilder is set to take on Parker as part of a massive event that sees Anthony Joshua vs. Otto Wallin as the main event, while Daniel Dubois takes on Jarrell Miller on the card as well. It’s one of the most stacked boxing events in quite some time, but Wilder thinks he and Parker should be for the main event.
“That’s why I think me and Parker should be the main event,” Wilder told ESNews. “We’re also two former champions. Why wouldn’t you have two former champions as the main event? I requested a flip of the coin. Maybe at the presser. I think that would be good promotion. … I think that would spice it up a little bit. This is not a Joshua show, this is not my show, this is all of our show. The thing about it is that I want the best for all of them. I want things to happen where the excitement is going to be.
“We know that between Joshua and Otto Wallin and me and Parker, which one do you think is the most exciting? And I feel the most exciting fight should be the main event. At the end of the day when people come to fights, they want to see knockouts,” Wilder continued. “They want to see excitement. Women lie, men lie, but my numbers don’t lie. I have a more chance of knocking my opponent out than Anthony Joshua do and bring the excitement. The last thing that people want to see and go home to: A dramatic knockout and then you leave.”
A flip of a coin to determine the main event would have been exciting. And, as Deontay Wilder says, he thinks his fight against Joseph Parker has a higher chance of ending in a knockout, which is how fans should want to leave the arena.
But, despite Wilder’s request, Joshua vs. Wallin will serve as the main event on Dec. 23.
