Kell Brook Open To Conor Benn Clash, Despite Retirement
Kell Brook is open to fighting Conor Benn despite him being retired.
Recently, Eddie Hearn came out and said he would like to see Brook return to boxing and thought a fight with Benn made sense. However, he wasn’t sure if Brook would end his retirement for that fight.
“I don’t know, I have not spoken to him for a while,” Hearn said to Boxing Social. “He’s been a little bit quiet. The thing is with Kell, you need to give him the time to prepare for a fight and it’s difficult to commit to a fight that far out. If Kell needs 16 weeks or whatever it is to make 150 or more likely 154, can you get a fight agreed within that time frame? If February 3rd, Conor Benn—he wouldn’t be ready for February the 3rd, in my opinion, because it’s only nine weeks. So, it’s difficult for the guys that have been out of the ring for a while that need that extra time to actually make the time frame work.
“I hope Kell fights again because he still has a lot that he can offer. You saw it in the Amir Khan fight. I still like Conor Benn against Kell Brook. I don’t know if he’s in the gym. I hope we see him back,” Hearn continued.
However, in a recent interview, Kell Brook says he is open to returning to boxing for the right money.
“It could be serious but I’m in the shadows at the moment doing my thing,” Brook told BBTV (h/t BoxingScene). “I’m retired and we’re getting into something deep here but, listen, I’m always up for a challenge and if it makes sense for me and the right amount of Benjamins we could do it. Unless they come serious, I’m happily retired with my pipe and slippers.”
If he does return to boxing, Kell Brook admits that the Conor Benn fight is one that does intrigue him.
“Yeah. I think so. I could get out of my silk sheets for that and train hard. I don’t know if they [Eubank and Benn] are fighting each other but I’ll be watching.”
Kell Brook is 40-3 as a pro and coming off a TKO win over Amir Khan.
