Eddie Hearn’s Plans for 2024’s Biggest Boxing Bout
It has been difficult to enjoy a boxing headline without it involving some kind of social media star in recent years. The news that Eddie Hearn is planning the biggest boxing event of 2024 will come as music to the ears of fight fans.
The fight is set to be between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, but there are some stipulations that will have to be met before the bout is possible.
Both Joshua and Wilder are in action two days before Christmas with Otto Wallin and Joseph Parker the respective opponents.
Both Joshua and Wilder are currently odds-on favorites to defeat their opponents and set up a blockbuster boxing night.
Joshua is currently priced at around 2/7 with Otto Wallin seen as a 10/3 outsider for the fight, according to many sportsbooks included on a guide to offshore gambling. Rounds 7, 8, and 9 are seen as the most likely should the fight be stopped with Joshua priced at 18/1 to win in these rounds.
Wilder is fancied even more in his fight against Joseph Parker, priced at 1/5 to beat the 9/2 outsider. Bookmakers think this fight is more likely to be stopped earlier with odds of 9/1 for Wilder to force a stoppage in round 5 or 6.
While both fighters are favorites for their fights, they face extremely tough opponents Otto Wallin is the current WBA Intercontinental heavyweight champion and will be keen to defend his title against Anthony Joshua when they face each other at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 23rd.
Should Joshua defeat the Swede, a potential matchup with Filip Hrgovic for the IBF title could be on the cards. However, Hearn is desperate to pair Joshua up with the hard-hitting American, Wilder.
Wilder’s fight against Parker from New Zealand is seen by many as a foregone conclusion. Parker will have a lot to say about that in the build-up and it could be an explosive fight.
If the bookmakers are right and Joshua and Wilder emerge victorious, Hearn’s proposal for these two to meet in the ring could be a precursor to an even bigger event.
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are set to meet on the 17th of February 2024 for their undisputed clash. The much-anticipated fight is set to take place between two of boxing’s best and most entertaining characters.
The winner of this fight will be the target for the best heavyweights, and should Wilder and Johsua come head to head, the next logical step would be for the winner to take on whoever emerges victorious from February’s event.
As always in boxing, there will be a lot of negotiations, twists, and turns, but there are some very interesting potential fights on the horizon, and Eddie Hearn will push for the most exciting possible outcomes.
