Oscar De La Hoya Says Ryan Garcia’s Next Fight Will Be In April
Oscar De La Hoya has provided an update on Ryan Garcia and his return to the ring.
Garcia recently took to social media to claim he was set to face Rolly Romero. However, Romero will instead be defending his WBA 140-pound title against Isaac Cruz. The news caught many by surprise, including Garcia.
“Look I was informed the deal was finalizing and it would be announced in the coming days,” Garcia wrote in a post on X. “Obviously that was a lie. My patience has been tested the last few weeks. I’m trying my best to be honest and real as I can to you guys. I’ll be looking forward to announcing my next fight. I’m not going to say anything until it’s actually signed and delivered. I still look forward to putting on a big PPV for DAZN Boxing. Have a Blessed day.”
Now, according to Oscar De La Hoya, he says the fight between Ryan Garcia and Rolly Romero was never close.
But, he says he and Garcia do have a good relationship and he expects the boxer to return to the ring on April 20 against an opponent TBD.
“A lot has happened,” De La Hoya said to reporters in Arizona this weekend (h/t BoxingScene). “Look, me and Ryan, we are a united front, OK? We are going to get his fight done and sealed and I will announce it when it is done. I do know for sure that it will be April 20th in Las Vegas. The [opponent] not yet. No names, no names no names. April 20th in Las Vegas.”
Ryan Garcia is 24-1 as a pro and returned to the win column back in December with a KO win over Oscar Duarte. Before that, he suffered his first pro loss by TKO to Gervonta Davis.
