Canelo Alvarez closing as big betting favorite to beat Jaime Munguia ahead of May championship fight
Ahead of his undisputed middleweight championship fight against Mexican compatriot, Jaime Munguia next month in Las Vegas, fan-favorite titleholder, Canelo Alvarez is closing as a rather large betting favorite to beat the former, and retain his undisputed crown.
Canelo, the current WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO super middleweight champion, returns to the squared circle on May 4. – taking on Mexican countryman, Munguia in a huge title fight in a comeback to ‘Sin City’.
Last time out, the Guadalajara favorite landed a unanimous decision win over Jermell Charlo back in September in Nevada, turning in his third straight victory since a return from a light heavyweight title charge against current champion, Dmitry Bivol.
As for Munguia, the incoming title challenger improved his unbeaten record to 43-0 back in January in an Arizona clash with common-foe, John Ryder – finishing the British challenger with a devastating ninth round TKO, with Canelo Alvarez handing the former a decision loss in his return to his native Mexico.

And ahead of his May title fight return, Canelo Alvarez is currently riding an impressive -600 betting favorite line to beat the +425 betting underdog, Jaime Munguia – who is in search of the biggest scalp of his professional boxing career so far, against his countryman.

“(Jaime) Munguia is a disciplined guy,” Canelo Alvarez explained. “He really hits hard. He can be a power puncher, and I like the challenges. I want to go after hungry [contenders] like Munguia who want to give their all inside the ring and give the fans the show that they deserve.”

Boasting a stunning 60-2-2 professional boxing record, beyond his loss to Bivol two years ago, Canelo’s sole other professional defeat came in the form of an unsuccessful championship charge against iconic puncher, Floyd Mayweather early in his notorious career back in 2013.
During his stunning tenure in the sport, Canelo Alvarez has beaten names including the likes of Carlos Baldomir, Lovemore N’dou, Kermit Cintron, Shane Mosley, Josesito Lopez, Austin Trout, Erisandy Lara, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Liam Smith, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Gennady Golovkin, Daniel Jacobs, Sergey Kovalev, Callum Smith, Billy Joe Saunders, and Caleb Plant.
Closing as a betting favorite to beat Munguia, a victory for future Hall of Fame star, Canelo would see him snap the 27-year-old’s 11-year unbeaten professional record.
