Jack Catterall Won’t Rush To Reschedule Regis Prograis Fight After Injury
Jack Catterall will not rush to rebook his fight against Regis Prograis.
Catterall and Prograis were supposed to box on August 23 in Manchester, but Catterall suffered an injury and was forced to withdraw from the bout. Matchroom Boxing says the plan is to rebook the fight later this year, but Catterall says he is in no rush to withdraw the bout.
“I picked up an injury and tried to train through it last week and took medical advice and obviously it’s disappointing, but health comes first,” Catterall told BoxingScene. “I’ve had to make the decision to withdraw and look at rescheduling it…
“My manager Sam [Jones] and Matchroom are working with me, keeping the dialogue going,” Catterall added. “We’re looking at dates, but ultimately I need to make sure I’m fit. The worst thing for me would be to reschedule it too soon and then have to withdraw again because I’m not 100 percent. So there’ll be a decision made between us going forward.”
Jack Catterall is coming off a decision win over Josh Taylor and although withdrawing from the fight was tough, Catterall says he wants to make sure he is 100% healthy.
“A hundred percent,” said the 31-year-old Englishman. “With the situation I find myself in, I find myself in a good position. I’ve had the momentum this last year or two, so I’ve got to make sure I can get in there and it’s a fight I believe I can win so I’m not going to go in there less than 100 percent.”
Jack Catterall is 29-1 and is on a three-fight winning streak as he’s coming off a decision win over Josh Taylor, and before that, he beat Jorge Linares, and Darragh Foley. His lone loss was by controversial split decision to Taylor. He also has notable wins over Ohara Davies, Tyrone Nurse, and Joe Hughes.
