Canelo Alvarez Vows To KO Conor McGregor If The Stars Ever Box
Canelo Alvarez believes a fight against UFC superstar Conor McGregor would be easy.
McGregor crossed over to boxing to face Floyd Mayweather in 2017, in one of the biggest fights ever. It was a spectacle, but in the end, it was Mayweather who won by 10th-round TKO. Although the Irishman hasn’t boxed again, he has talked about it, and Alvarez has been a popular name.
If the fight ever happens, Alvarez says it would be easy for him.
“I know, and then we show boxing is better,” Alvarez said, via MMAFighting, before adding, “Easy, easy, way easy money.”
When asked when he would KO McGregor, the Mexican said it would be whenever he wants.
“At the time I want. One round, two rounds, three rounds, whatever I want,” Alvarez added.
Although a bout between the two seems unlikely, the rivalry picked up this weekend with Alvarez and the UFC going head-to-head in Las Vegas on Saturday. Conor McGregor also was confident the UFC would outperform Alvarez.
“Canelo is a cornflake. He has about 300,000 buys in him,” McGregor wrote on social media. “He does not generate nothing near what he seeks to be paid. UFC Noche is going to run them from The Strip. Sheik Turki was right moving on. Canelo doesn’t sell.”
That led to a heated back-and-forth between Alvarez and McGregor. Both men seem interested in the bout, and when UFC CEO Dana White asked was asked about it, he answered with a big smile saying “let’s put a pin on that.
For now, a bout between Alvarez and McGregor seems unlikely to happen anytime soon, if ever.
Canelo Alvarez is set to return to the ring on Saturday against Edgar Berlanga. The Mexican is 61-2-2 as a pro and coming off a decision win over Jaime Munguia back in May.
