Edgar Berlanga Lays Out Plan To Get Canelo Alvarez Rematch
Edgar Berlanga is coming off his first career loss as he suffered a decision loss to Canelo Alvarez over a week ago.
It was a step up in competition, and after the loss, Berlanga says he learned a lot and plans on eventually getting the rematch against Alvarez.
“I know we can get that rematch in a year and a half, and I know for a fact that I can beat him for sure,” said Edgar Berlanga to Sways Universe (via BoxingNews24).
According to Edgar Berlanga, he says his next fight will be against Caleb Plant or Jamie Munguia, but he does want Munguia. He believes that fight makes sense, and he knows if he beat Munguia, that would be enough to get a rematch with Alvarez.
“This was my first world title fight. It was a unification. It could have been for undisputed,” said Berlanga. “Right now, Caleb [Plant] is on the radar, but right now, I want Munguia. That fight with PPV numbers and the gate. He’s a big draw in Mexico. You saw me and Canelo. We just did history. Me and Munguia would do the same thing…
“After I beat him, I want that rematch [with Canelo Alvarez]. I think we had a great fight. He’d got a lot of respect for me now,” said Berlanga. “He saw the numbers we did. It was a great fight from round one to round twelve. I truly believe he’ll give me another shot. “I think I’ll have to go out there and capture a world title. Like the WBO if he releases the WBO or WBA. If I grab a title, I believe we can make it happen. Next year is going to be a big year. I’m a future PPV star. PPV King, the Face of Boxing.”
Edgar Berlanga is 22-1 as a pro and coming off the loss to Alvarez. Before that, he scored a TKO win over Padraig McCrory.
