Tim Tszyu Claims Sebastian Fundora Isn’t The Best Boxer At 154lbs

Tim Tszyu says Sebastian Fundora is the person to beat at 154lbs, but doesn’t think he is the best.

Fundora pulled off a stunning win over Tszyu back in March. Since then, Tszyu hasn’t fought since, and as he looks to return, he says the 154lbs is stacked.

“The 154-pound division is red hot right now, man,” Tszyu said in an interview with BoxingScene. “There are names flooding around everywhere. Belts are stacked from everywhere, so it’s good to be in this division right now.”

Tim Tszyu remains a big name at 154lbs and the hope is to eventually get a rematch with Sebastian Fundora. Yet, Tszyu says despite Fundora beating him last time an having the belts, isn’t the best boxer at 154lbs.

“If everything presents itself and the way things work out, then yeah, of course. Why not? It all depends on the current situation. Boxing changes. It’s like a fighter loses, and then it’s the next guy in line. That’s all. You can’t really predict the future much. It’s hard. Right now, 154 is very hot so I’ll stay here. At the moment, Fundora has the belts now but, no, I don’t think he’s the best.”

Tszyu is set to return to the ring on October 19 against Bakhram Murtazaliev for his IBF super welterweight title in Orlando, Florida. It’s a critical fight for Tszyu as he looks to get back on track with a win. Murtazaliev, meanwhile, is 22-0 as a pro and coming off a KO win over Jack Culcay to win the vacant IBF light middleweight champion.

Tim Tszyu is 24-1 as a pro and coming off the split decision loss to Sebastian Fundora. Before that, he scored a decision win over Brian Mendoza. He also has notable wins over Carlos Ocampo, Tony Harrison, Terrell Gausha, and Jeff Horn among others.
