Jake Paul’s future: what should be next?
Jake Paul has had an interesting run in the world of boxing up to this point – but what exactly should the future hold for him?
It’s a complicated question. He’s coming off the back of a win over Mike Tyson which, in the eyes of many, was all a bit insane. He took on a version of Mike Tyson that is rapidly approaching his 60s – but in the eyes of Jake Paul, a win is a win.
Ever since then, he’s teased the idea of multiple different futures for himself. One involves a venture into mixed martial arts, and another involves him pushing for a world title shot against someone like Canelo Alvarez. So, to summarise, it’s all a bit up in the air.
‘The Problem Child’ knows better than most that marketing is everything. In the fight game, it can take you a long way, and it’s taken Jake Paul to a point whereby he’s one of the biggest names in the sport of boxing. There are plenty of you reading this who will absolutely hate that fact, but you can’t really dispute the authenticity of it.
It’s been a long road for him to get here and he’s taken an unusual route. Still, it’s been entertaining, depending on your point of view.
What should be next for Jake Paul?
If he’s going to head into the world of MMA, we don’t think Jake Paul will gain much from simply fighting a low-level opponent in his first outing. What would make sense, though, is battling it out with Nate Diaz in the cage. He’ll almost certainly lose, especially if it goes to the ground, but he’ll make the most money, which often seems to be his motivation.
In pro boxing, there are two options: KSI or a Tommy Fury rematch. Again, he could shoot even higher than that and probably will, but we need to be realistic when it comes to how high he can actually climb up the ladder.
What do you think makes the most sense?
