Darren Till needs boxing run to work
Once upon a time, Darren Till was the hottest thing in mixed martial arts. He worked his way up to a world title opportunity in the UFC, and many considered him to be the next big star out of the United Kingdom after Michael Bisping. Then, in a flash, it all came crumbling down.
While Tyron Woodley’s performance in their championship showdown was incredible, Darren Till didn’t live up to expectations. From there, he struggled to really get back to a point of relevancy, even after a win over Kelvin Gastelum and a strong performance against Robert Whittaker.
From there, he experienced a string of defeats, before eventually being released by the UFC. Given his age, many felt as if Darren Till would kick on and do something exciting outside of the promotion – but that hasn’t quite come to fruition.
The curious case of Darren Till
After his boxing debut ended in a brawl, Darren Till turned to a potential collision with Tommy Fury. After that fell through, his opponent was switched to Anthony Taylor. Of course, it’s entirely possible that ‘The Gorilla’ will be able to pick up a win and go on to achieve a few more decent things outside of the UFC, but we now wonder whether or not returning to the UFC is a feasible possibility.
If he wants to even come close to that, he needs to defeat Anthony Taylor, and he needs to do so decisively. From there, perhaps one or two more big wins could well be enough to get him back in the good books of Dana White.
Still, even if that doesn’t happen, it would just be nice to see Darren Till come close to living up to his potential. On his best day, he truly is one of the most intriguing fighters to watch in mixed martial arts. Hopefully, he gets to showcase that again one day.
