Canelo Alvarez needs to make a statement
Canelo Alvarez has been heavily linked with a superfight against Terence Crawford – and when we say super, that’s not an understatement.
Over the course of the last decade or so, Canelo Alvarez has easily transformed himself into one of the most exciting fighters in all of boxing. From high profile knockouts to blockbuster pay-per-view numbers, there are very few people out there who can claim to be as big of a star in this world than the Mexican sensation.
With that being said, he’s been met with a couple of accusations lately. For the most part, it comes from people suggesting that he isn’t taking on risky enough fights against the best of the best. Of course, he isn’t the first man in boxing to be accused of that, but given his track record, you could argue it’s a little bit disrespectful given what he’s done for the sport.
Either way, it’s a narrative – and it’s one that Canelo Alvarez only can tear away by locking horns with Terence Crawford.
The big push for Canelo Alvarez
This summer, Canelo Alvarez looks set to turn 35. Regardless of whether or not you’re a big fan of him, nobody can deny that he’s had great longevity at the elite level. Alas, against two of his toughest opponents in Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol, he came up short.
Yes, if he fought Crawford then there would be a noticeable difference in size, but we don’t really think that’s the point. The point, in our view, is that he’s willing to thrown down with someone who has looked unbeatable across most of the major fights in his career.
Canelo Alvarez deserves to be respected and that much goes without saying. Hopefully, we see this fight, and whether he wins or loses, we just want to see people recognize him for what he’s brought to the game.
