Adrien Broner Plans To Be Undisputed Champ At 140, Eyes Fight With Regis Prograis
Adrien Broner believes he can become the undisputed champion at 140 pounds.
The former multi-division champion from Cincinnati in Broner is set to return to the ring after nearly two years on Feb. 25 against Ivan Redkach in a welterweight bout in Atlanta. After the fight, he is set to drop down to 140lbs, which is a weight class he has not fought since 2017 when he dropped a decision to Mikey Garcia.
However, he believes he can have a lot of success at 140lbs as Broner believes he will become the champ and KO all the big names en route to that. As well, he also has his eye on Regis Prograis as his first test at 140lbs.
“Man, I don’t think y’all understand what I’m telling ya,” Broner said on the Porter Way Podcast (via BoxingScene). “My next fight is Redkach. I will be champion in my next two fights … [at] ’40.” First, I want Regis, of course,” Broner continued, referring to the WBC champion Regis Prograis. “Get him on out the way. Then knock them all out. I gotta be undisputed before I’m done with this sh!t.”
Adrien Broner was once a highly-touted prospect but he has failed to live up to the expectations due to a variety of reasons. However, Broner believes all that is past him and he will prove that when he returns to 140lbs.
“Cuttin’ out and weedin’ out a lot of the things you really don’t need,” Broner said of his renewed focus on boxing. “…When you get to this type of level, you let so much things ride on even though it’s really not good for you. What I did, I said ‘f— everything.’ This time around it’s strictly about me and my family and that’s the way I’m going at it and everything be going great.”
