Alex Pereira vs Oleksandr Usyk: Carl Froch questions the idea

Alex Pereira

British boxing legend Carl Froch has called into question the prospect of Alex Pereira competing against Oleksandr Usyk in a boxing match.

For those who don’t know, Alex Pereira is a pretty big deal. He is the UFC light heavyweight champion, and he’s one of the most fearsome men in all of mixed martial arts. Recently, the great Oleksandr Usyk has teased the idea of the two taking part in a crossover boxing match – which is a concept we’ve seen several times before.

For Alex Pereira, this would serve as a huge opportunity. At the same time, he has a lot on his plate, most notably Magomed Ankalaev who will challenge him for his belt at UFC 313.

Now, Carl Froch has weighed in on the idea – and he isn’t a massive fan.

Carl Froch’s view on Alex Pereira vs Oleksandr Usyk

“Last night, I watched Alex Pereira sparring on YouTube,” Froch said.

“He’s okay. He’s a little bit upright. Chin’s in the air a bit, but he’s a bit bolt-rigid. No head movement and quite basic. Usyk’s dealt with the best in the world, so Usyk against Pereira in a boxing match based on what I’ve seen of Periera [is a mismatch].

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s an absolute machine. What a guy. I’ve got nothing but praise for him in his discipline. Brilliant fighter. Like I said, one of the biggest names now in the UFC.

“Oleksandr Usyk against Pereira in a boxing ring? For me, it’s a mismatch, it’s not something I’d really wanna see.

“I’d probably like to see that in the cage, if I’m honest. But that’s just the fighter in me saying, ‘How good would one of the best in the boxing world do against somebody like Alex Periera, who is a top UFC fighter?’

“The answer to that question would probably be not very good. Alex Pereira would probably absolutely wipe him out.”
