Ali Walsh, Muhammad Ali’s Grandson Wins First Pro Boxing Match
The grandson of Muhammad Ali has scooped up a victory in his very first pro boxing match.
Ali Walsh shared the ring with Jordan Weeks this past weekend. It only took Walsh 90 seconds to send Weeks to the canvas. When Weeks beat the 10-count, Walsh continued to reign down punches on the dazed Weeks to earn the TKO stoppage under two minutes into the fight.
After the victory, Walsh talked about missing his grandfather (h/t Sky Sports).
“I’ve been thinking about him so much. I miss him. It seems like a lot of pressure but, to me, he’s just my grandfather. To the crowd, he is the greatest fighter who ever lived and maybe the greatest person. To me? He’s the greatest grandfather!”
Walsh then spoke about longtime boxing promoter Bob Arum, who once promoted Muhammad Ali.
“He promoted my grandfather and now me. It’s ridiculous. Something that should be in a Hollywood movie.”
Muhammad Ali passed away on June 3, 2016. He was 74 years old. Ali is recognized as not just an all-time boxing great, but a cultural icon. One who paved the way for American Americans. Ali has been credited with changing America for the better in more ways than one.
Ali won multiple world titles throughout his illustrious career. He went head-to-head with the likes of Joe Fraizer, Ken Norton, Floyd Patterson, and George Foreman. He ended his pro boxing career with a record of 56-5 with 37 of those victories coming by way of knockout.
