Amir Khan Not Retired Yet, Looking To Put Kell Brook In His Place
Amir Khan is not done with boxing just yet.
Khan hasn’t competed since a TKO win over Billy Dib in July last year leading many to wonder if it was the last we’ve seen of the Briton.
However, that is far from the case as Khan plans on boxing next year — especially if fans will be in attendance after what was a 2020 to forget for the entire world.
“No, no, the gloves are still on,” Khan told the Khaleej Times. “I’m thinking of fighting probably next year. This year was a bit of a bad year for everybody. And boxing was off. They wanted to fight behind closed doors. I didn’t really feel like I could motivate myself, but hopefully, if it opens up next year, we can make something happen. I want to fight again around March or April and there are so many names out there, there are so many deals on the table, in the Middle East as well. So, let’s see how that plays out.
“I enjoy the sport, still. Honestly, I would be lost without it. I love waking up in the morning, training, running. My life is all about boxing and I’ve never really thought about retiring. It’s hard for me to walk away from it.”
So who does Khan want in his return? Well, he finally wants to throw down with longtime domestic welterweight rival Kell Brook.
Brook is coming off a fourth-round knockout defeat to Terence Crawford in their WBO welterweight title fight last month. However, a Khan vs. Brook fight is one that has been eagerly anticipated for quite some time now only for it to fail to come to fruition.
Perhaps Khan sees 2021 as the best opportunity to finally make it happen.
“I think with Kell Brook, who has always been running his mouth, I think put him in his place now,” Khan said. “I think it is about time now to put him in his place and shut him up for good.”
Do you still want to see Khan vs. Brook? Or has the ship sailed?
