Amir Khan Talks Conor Benn: ‘At His Age, I Was A World Champ’
Amir Khan seems unimpressed with upcoming prospect Conor Benn’s recent post fight call out.
Still only 24, Benn has amassed an impressive 18-0 record. His most recent victory took place last Saturday, where he finished Samuel Vargas within the first round. Vargas was Benn’s biggest win to date, and with such an emphatic result, Benn believes he is now ready for a higher calibre of opponent.
He stated the following:
“Give me Amir Khan. I know he’s too busy on reality shows and all that, but listen – if he wants it, he can get it” (H/T Boxing Scene).
Khan has since responded. The Olympic gold medallist acknowledged that a win over Vargas was a notable scalp to have claimed. However, Khan does not seem to believe Benn is deserving of a shot against him yet.
He stated the following:
“Conor well done. Great kid, wish him the best. At his age, I was a world champ. Maybe if he had some belts that fight would make sense but he’s got a long way to go yet”
Whilst not seeming averse to a fight somewhere in the future, Khan appears to have his eyes set on big name opponents for now. Rumours have been circulating around a potential fight between Khan and former welterweight champion, Kell Brook.
