Andres Cortes Wants Oscar Valdez-Liam Wilson Winner
Andres Cortes will be paying close attention to the Liam Wilson vs Oscar Valdez fight on Friday.
Wilson and Valdez are set to fight for the interim WBO interim junior lightweight title on Friday in a very intriguing matchup. Cortes, who is, ranked No. 3 by the WBO says he will be ringside to watch the fight closely as he expects to be facing the winner.
“I’ll be watching the Valdez versus Wilson fight closely because I see myself facing the winner in the near future,” said Cortes (via BoxingScene). “This is a significant matchup in the division, and I’m ready to take on the challenge against whoever emerges victorious… I firmly believe that I am the best fighter in the super featherweight division, and I’m prepared to prove it by taking on all comers. I’m eager to showcase my talents and continue my journey towards becoming a world champion.”
Entering the fight, Valdez is a -350 favorite, so the expectation is that Cortes will be fighting him next time out.
Andres Cortes is 21-0 as a pro and coming off a TKO win over Bryan Chevalier in February. He also holds notable wins over Xavier Martinez, Luis Melendez, and Abraham Montoya, but if he does face the winner of Valdez-Wilson, that would be the biggest fight of his career so far.
