Andy Ruiz Interested In Potential Matchup With Luis Ortiz
Andy Ruiz has expressed his interest in a possible future matchup with Luis Ortiz.
Ruiz concisely defeated Chris Arreola this past Saturday. The former heavyweight champ put on the display that many predicted, picking up the unanimous decision victory. However, an added caveat to the event was the presence of Luis Ortiz in the crowd.
Ortiz was hoping to drum up some potential interest in a matchup against Ruiz, an idea that appears Ruiz also appears to be intrigued by. He stated the following:
“We’ve just gotta talk to Al Haymon. And, you know, I think that would be an exciting fight as well, you know, me and Luis Ortiz. But I’ve just gotta get back in the ring, gotta get back on to training, so I could feel good, feel better and take this ring rust out of here. I’m actually happy that it lasted 12 rounds, you know, because, you know, we did the rounds. But, you know, gotta get back to the gym (Transcribed via Boxing Scene).
This is a new development for Ruiz, who initially appeared to be angling for a bout against Deontay Wilder. In a recent interview with Boxing Scene, Ruiz had the following to say about the Bronze Bomber:
“That would be an exciting fight. That would be an all-action fight. He’s a banger. I’m a banger as well. And he’s fought Chris Arreola before. I’m gonna fight him on May 1st, so I think that would be a really, really good fight. I would love for that fight to happen.”
