Andy Ruiz Jr. Undergoes Surgery On Knee, Hopes To Compete In December
Andy Ruiz. Jr successfully underwent surgery on his right knee.
The procedure took place Tuesday in Guadalajara, Jalisco, and it was a much needed one as well as he was struggling with his knee for three years as per his father Andy Ruiz Sr.
“They operated on his right knee, he had been struggling with that knee for about three years, he could not run very much, he could not do certain movements, he used gel and things like that to mitigate the pain, but recently it was not enough and he made the decision of the operation that was an arthroscopy and it was done by the same doctor who operated on Canelo, Pedro Lomeli,” Andy Ruiz Sr. told ESPN Deportes (via Boxing Scene).
The surgery means Ruiz could be on the sidelines for a while once again having only competed once since December 2019.
However, Ruiz Sr. is hopeful of a December return for his son.
“They gave us hope that he would come back in December,” he added. “The physical trainer, the doctor told us that, if everything goes well right now, then that possibility exists, but we will see when the moment arrives. Right now we are happy that the surgery went well.”
Ruiz bounced back from his defeat to Anthony Joshua with a hard-fought but rather unimpressive points win over Chris Arreola in May.
Who do you think Ruiz should face in his return?
