Anthony Joshua Defends Daniel Dubois After People Claims He Quit

Daniel Dubois did not have the weekend many thought he would have.

The rising heavyweight star was set for his toughest test against Joe Joyce. Joyce’s jab caused the 23-year-olds eye to completely shut and in the 10th round took another punch on the left eye and took a knee and the fight was called.

After the fight, it was revealed a fractured orbital bone and nerve damage around the eye. However, many criticized Dubois for taking a knee as many had the young star up on the scorecards. For Anthony Joshua, however, he believes no one should be trash talking Dubois for ending the fight.

“If Daniel needs someone to speak to, he should call me. It is easy for people to criticize from outside the ring — but some people have been out of order. Daniel took a massive risk in taking that fight, as did Joe Joyce. They both knew the dangers and they both put it all on the line,” Joshua told The Sun (via Boxingscene).

“I hear people talking respectfully about tapping out in MMA fights. Then when a boxer stops because his eyeball is about to fall out, they call him a ‘quitter’ — are they serious?

“Daniel’s time will come. I believe I will fight both him and Joyce. Joyce is underrated. He had a top amateur pedigree and it shows. This is a great time for British heavyweight boxing — it has never been stronger — and those two guys are both a huge part of it.”

Daniel Dubois is now 15-1 as a pro and lost the WBO International, British, Commonwealth, and WBC Silver heavyweight titles with the loss. As for Anthony Joshua, he is set to return to the ring on December 12 against Kubrat Pulev. It will be Joshua’s first fight since he defeated Andy Ruiz Jr. last December in their rematch.
