Anthony Joshua Praises Jake Paul, Says He’s ‘Great For Boxing’
Anthony Joshua has nothing but praise for YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.
Paul has taken over the boxing world after he made waves last November being the co-main event of Mike Tyson‘s return fight where Paul knocked out Nate Robinson. He followed that up with a first-round KO over Ben Askren in April and in August, he defeated Tyron Woodley by split decision.
Although many don’t like Paul, the IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO heavyweight champion in Joshua has nothing but praise for him. He also believes the YouTuber is great for the sport of boxing and getting more eyes on it.
“[He’s] great for boxing. He’s trying, zero amateur experience, throwing himself in the deep end,” Joshua said to IFL TV (via BoxingScene). “He’ll probably learn a lot more than a lot of fighters, throwing himself in the deep end, putting himself under pressure. Good luck to him.”
There’s no question Paul is attracting a younger demographic to boxing and the hope is, those fans then start to like the sport and will continue watching. Whether or not that has happened is uncertain but he will continue to fight and make the headlines for the foreseeable future, or until he loses. He will likely face Tommy Fury next time out, yet that fight has not been made. When he will box again is also uncertain.
As for Anthony Joshua, the heavyweight champion is set to return to the ring on Saturday, September 25 as he defends his belts against Oleksandar Usyk in London, England. Should he win that fight, it’s likely he will then face Tyson Fury next, as long as Fury beats Wilder in October.
Joshua is coming off a KO win over Kubrat Pulev to defend his belt after reclaiming them with a dominant decision victory over Andy Ruiz Jr. after being shockingly KO’d by Ruiz Jr. in MSG in 2019.
