Anthony Joshua Praises Joseph Parker Following Win Over Deontay Wilder
Anthony Joshua is impressed with Joseph Parker’s career arc and his resiliency.
Joshua beat Parker by decision back in 2018 to defend his WBA, IBF, and IBO heavyweight titles while also winning the WBO heavyweight belt. Since that fight, Parker lost his next fight to Dillian Whyte but then rallied off six straight wins including two over Derek Chisora.
However, after a KO loss to Joe Joyce, many assumed Joseph Parker’s time as a title contender was over. But, after winning three straight fights, he was booked to face Deontay Wilder on Saturday in a fight he was the underdog in.
Despite the odds, Parker dominated Wilder and won a lopsided decision, as he outboxed ‘The Bronze Bomber’ in every round.
Following the win, Anthony Joshua praised Joseph Parker to see how he has rebounded after some key losses.
“I think it’s amazing what Parker done [against Wilder],” Joshua said at the press conference. “He came up short against Joe Joyce. he showed resilience pays off. Daniel Dubois came up short a few times. He showed resilience and it paid off. You only give up when that competition, that competitive spirit inside yourself dies. I’m a fierce competitor. You can ask my pals. Whether it’s spelling games, whether it’s chess. Whatever it may be we all compete with each other. I think you should always try and find that winning streak again, even if you’re coming up short a few times.”
Although Anthony Joshua is impressed with Joseph Parker, the Kiwi winning ruined a massive two-fight deal between Joshua and Wilder which was signed for March 9.
With the win over Wilder, Parker improved to 34-3 as a pro and what is next for him is uncertain at this time.
