Anthony Joshua Promises To Fight Winner Of Fury-Wilder 3
Anthony Joshua vows to take on the winner of Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3.
Today (Sept. 25), Joshua is set to put his WBA, IBF, WBO, and IBO Heavyweight Titles on the line. The challenger will be Oleksandr Usyk, who is the former undisputed cruiserweight champion. Usyk is the mandatory WBO Title challenger.
Ahead of the fight, Joshua said he’s prepared to take on the winner of the trilogy matchup between Fury and Wilder (h/t BoxingScene.com).
“So, we both have important fights of our career, both 50-50 fights as well, which is really good for boxing at the end of the day,” Joshua said. “So, inevitably I’ve got a rematch clause if the worst happens. I’m not too sure what Fury’s situation is. So, if I lose, I’m fighting Usyk again, the undisputed [title fight] gets put on hold. If I win, I’ll fight either one of them. If Fury wins, I’ll fight Fury. If Wilder wins, I’ll fight Wilder. If Fury wins and doesn’t take the fight with me because – on his hit list, he said that he wants to fight, I think he said he wants to fight Dillian [Whyte] first or [Dereck] Chisora first, or something like that – then I’ll fight Wilder.”
Fury vs. Wilder 3 will take place on Oct. 9. Their first encounter ended in a split draw. In the rematch, Fury dismantled Wilder en route to a seventh-round TKO finish. Wilder ended up winning an arbitration case, guaranteeing his trilogy bout with Fury.
Fury recently told Express that he’s pulling for Joshua to emerge victorious over Usyk.
“I watch all the boxing fights, every single one that happens I watch, so of course I’m going to watch a heavyweight championship fight for sure,” Fury said (via Express). “Do I want him to win? Definitely. Because it doesn’t make much sense in me beating Usyk up. I’d much prefer to beat Joshua up. It’s a bigger fight and people want to see it more. If Usyk does then he will cost us a few quid, won’t he? Then again we have lost plenty of money in the past so it doesn’t really matter, does it? There’s plenty to go around. Joshua’s got a tough fight, you know – Usyk is no mug.”
