Anthony Joshua Tells Tyson Fury: Fight Me To Prove You’re Number One
Anthony Joshua has told Tyson Fury to fight him and to settle the debate about who’s the number one heavyweight in boxing.
Joshua currently holds three of the four major heavyweight belts. The 30-year-old beat Andy Ruiz last time out via decision to reclaim the titles he previously lost after suffering a monumental upset loss against Ruiz in mid-2019.
Fury captured the WBC title by stopping American power puncher Deontay Wilder inside seven rounds earlier this year. He also claimed the ring magazine belt during eargely anticipated rematch with Wilder. The pair previously fought to a controversial draw in 2018.
Speaking to Sky Sports Joshua challenged Fury to come and fight him in order to prove who’s the best heavyweight in boxing, he said.
‘If you really want to say you’re No 1, come fight me. Let’s get it on, ‘I’ve got the rest of the belts so it only makes sense. I’m the unified heavyweight champion of the world, he’s the WBC champion.
“What it will prove, me and him fighting? There will be one dominant figure in the heavyweight division that will have all of the belts and become undisputed. Logically to prove yourself as No 1, I have to fight Tyson Fury. He has to fight Anthony Joshua.”
Both fighters currently have mandated fights standing in the way of a potential all-British heavyweight undisputed fight.
Joshua was due to face Kubrat Pulev in a mandatory defence of his IBF title in June. The coronavirus has meant that fight has been postponed and will be rescheduled at a later date.
Fury will again have to rematch Wilder who triggered a clause in the fight contract which permits him an immediate rematch.
Joshua however would love the chance to tell both their opponents to step aside and make one of the biggest fights in boxing history, he said.
‘It would be amazing to tell Pulev ‘I think it’s best if you step aside for now’ and to tell Wilder ‘we have bigger fish to fry. Enjoy your Alabama chicken while we get cracking in the UK!” That fight needs to happen because there will never be another time like this again.’
