Anthony Yarde vs. Joshua Buatsi Could Be Finalized This Week, Says Promoter
Ben Shalom says Anthony Yarde vs. Joshua Buatsi could be finalized very soon.
The promoters have reportedly agreed to a 50-50 split, but Frank Warren came out and gave some doubts that the fight will happen. However, speaking to BoxingScene, Shalom says he expects the fight to happen and be agreed to very soon.
“That’s not my side, so it’s hard to speculate on what they’re negotiating on, but I’m sure they’ll come to a solution,” Shalom said. “[Yarde’s] under pressure to take the fight regardless, but I’ve seen his interviews – he wants the fight as well. Everyone wants the fight. You can’t blame the promoter and the fighter for wanting to get the best terms for themselves. That’s normal. It’s positive and it’s looking like the fight will happen. [I’m] not concerned at all. Ultimately, I know what it’s like. Every fighter’s different and every situation’s different. The positive thing is it’s clear both fighters, in my opinion, want the fight. Both promoters want the fight. There’s a deal in principle. It’s positive. It’s the only fight everyone’s talking about…
“The fight’s agreed, in terms of between the promoters,” Shalom continued. “We’re all good with Josh. I think he said that – I think Frank said himself, him and Anthony are just trying to come to an agreement. Everyone wants the fight. It’s the biggest fight for both of them. It’s the right time. I hope we get it on soon. I think we’re all gonna try and sit down in a room [this] week with the fighters there and thrash everything out.”
Anthony Yarde is 25-3 and coming off a KO win over Marko Nikolic and is on a two-fight winning streak, with his last loss coming to Artur Beterbiev.
Joshua Buatsi, meanwhile, is 18-0 as a pro and coming off a decision win over Dan Azeez.
