Cung Le
If we’re going to make a list of the best fighters from Vietnam, the legend Cung Le must be mentioned. Cung Le is the first MMA star and champion to come from Vietnam.
After winning multiple titles in kickboxing and sanshou, Le made a splash into the MMA world. Le became one of the stars for the Strikeforce promotion, where he won the organizations middleweight title beating legend Frank Shamrock.
Cung then went on to fight in the UFC, where he competed for four fights. In those four fights, Le competed against vets and legends like Wanderlei Silva, Rich Franklin, and Michael Bisping.
Cung Le will forever be known as the first Vietnamese MMA stars and easily one of the best fighters from Vietnam,
Martin Nguyen
The Vietnamese/Australian champion Martin Nguyen is one of ONE Championship’s top fighters. The current ONE Featherweight Champion and former ONE Lightweight Champion has made history multiple times in his career.
Martin is the first fighter of Vietnamese descent to win a ONE Championship title. He is also the first fighter in the promotion to simultaneously hold world titles in two divisions.
The 35-year old currently has a record of 15-7 and has battled all of the best fighters in the organization. Nguyen would love to add another world title to his already impressive resume.
Than Le
Current ONE Interim Featherweight Champion Than Le is the son of a Vietnamese immigrant. After fighting around the US, Le made a splash in ONE and gained a large following of fans from Vietnam.
At 9-2, Le entered ONE Championship and quickly became a star. Than won his first five fights by KO, which included winning his first world title and handing Garry Tonon his first pro loss.
Since then Le went on to attempt to become a 2-division champ and then won the interim lightweight championship. Le is American born, but the Vietnamese MMA fans have embraced him as one of their own.
Michael Pham
The last name we’ll mention on our list of the best fighters from Vietnam is Thai boxing pro Michael Pham. Michael is a fighter from the UK, whose parents immigrated from Vietnam.
The Vietnamese immigrant went on to become a pro Muay Thai kickboxer to earn a record of 18-5-1. In 2019, Pham co-headlined the event that was held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The Muay Thai fighter brought the crowd roaring to their feet as he delivered a spectacular knockout. This win was one of the biggest of his career and Pham was overcome with emotion as the Vietnamese crowd embraced him.
