Ezzard Charles
Of all the best light heavyweight boxers ever, many regard the legend Ezzard Charles as the best. He fought all of the legends of the sport during his stellar career.
Charles started off his boxing career in the light heavyweight division where he started making a name for himself. He won the light heavyweight title against Al Barlow and proceeded to win all but one fight during the next decade.
After an incredible run at light heavyweight, Charles moved up to heavyweight and again became a champion. The legend won the NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring heavyweight titles and defended them successfully five times.
If you ask any boxing expert, they will tell you that Ezzard Charles is one of the all time greats.
Archie Moore
Another legend of the golden era of boxing and one of the best light heavyweight boxers ever was Archie Moore. The Old Mongoose is the longest reigning light heavyweight champ in boxing history.
Moore held his title from 1952 to 1962 using his incredible defense and tactical skills. The most amazing thing about Archie’s reign as champion is that it was late into his career.
His reign started when 39 and lasted until he was almost 50 years old. The legend fought all of the legends of his era and won many of those matches.
Michael Spinks
During the 1980s, Michael Spinks was not only one of the best light heavyweight boxers, but one of the P4P best. Before turning pro, Spinks won gold at the 1976 Olympics and exceeded expectations as a pro.
Spinks became the undisputed light heavyweight champion in 1983 and held the titles until 1985. Then after dominating the light heavyweight division, Spinks became the lineal heavyweight champion.
During his incredible career, Michael beat everyone from Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Gerry Cooney, Marvin Johnson, and Larry Holmes twice.
Billy Conn
“The Pittsburgh Kid” Billy Conn is another one of the best light heavyweight boxers ever. He was as gritty a fighter as there ever was and fought through adversity to become a champion.
After starting his career with an 8-6 record, Conn, he improved his record to 46-9-1. This impressive run got him a title shot against Melio Belina, where he took a decision.
From that point on, Conn was the king of the light heavyweights for years until he moved up to heavyweight.
Dimitry Bivol
