Andrew Gołota
One fighter that must be mentioned on any list of the best Polish boxers is Andrew Golota. Andrew was an Olympic Bronze medalist and the first Polish fighter to fight for the heavyweight title.
Golota has a 20+ year fighting career, where he fought numerous of the sport. He fought Tim Witherspoon, Riddick Bowe twice, Mike Tyson, and Lennox Lewis for the WBC heavyweight title in 1997.
He fought for world titles on four occasions, but unfortunately came up short in those attempts. However, Golota was able to stay in the sport for over three decades and remain a top contender.
Tomasz Adamek
Next on our list of the best Polish boxers is Tomasz Adamaek, who is one of the most decorated Polish fighters ever. In Adamek’s career, he held world titles in two weight divisions and nearly three towards the end of his career.
Tomasz started out his fighting career as a light heavyweight and won the WBC light heavyweight title in 2005. After defending the belt twice and losing it in his 3rd defense, Tomasz moved up to cruiserweight.
He won the vacant IBO cruiserweight title in his first cruiserweight fight and went on the best run of his career. During this run, Adamek IBF and The Ring cruiserweight title before moving up to heavyweight.
Adamek won numerous regional heavyweight titles, but came up short for a world title against Vitali Klitschko. Despite this, Tomasz had an incredible career and is considered a
Polish legend.
Dariusz Michalczewski
Easily one of the best Polish boxers of all time is the great Dariusz Michalczewski. Dariusz was one of the first fighters from Poland to hold world titles in two different weight classes.
From the early 1990s until 2005, Michalczewski was one of the world’s best light heavyweight boxers. After going 23-0, Dariusz secured his first world title by beating Leeonzer Barber for the WBO light-heavyweight title.
In his next bout, Michalczeski captured the WBO junior-heavyweight title by knocking out Nestor Giovanni. For the next decade, Dariusz didn’t lose a fight and became the light heavyweight king.
He collected the WBA and IBF light-heavyweight titles while defending his WBO title a staggering 20 times. This feat makes Dariusz arguably one of the best light heavyweight of all time.
Jerzy Kulej
We’re wrapping up our short list of the best Polish boxers of all time with the Polish icon Jerzy Kulej. The late Kulej was one of the country’s first boxing legends.
During his remarkable career, Jerzy won everything at the amateur and pro level. In the 1960s, Kulej won back-to-back Olympic gold medals in the light welterweight division.
He is the only Polish boxer in history to win 2 Olympic gold medals, along with 2 European titles. Jerzy influenced a lot of young Polish boys to take up boxing, which created a surge in great Polish boxers.
