Billy Joe Saunders To Defend WBO Title Against Martin Murray On Dec. 4
Billy Joe Saunders will look to defend his WBO super-middleweight title on December 4 against Martin Murray.
Eddie Hearn announced the fight on social media. The bout will also take place at The SSE Arena in Wembley, England with the fight being aired on DAZN in North America and Sky Sports in the UK.
LET’S GO!!! Friday Dec 4th @bjsaunders_ v Martin Murray for the @WorldBoxingOrg World title live on @skysportsboxing @dazn_us.
Billy Joe Saunders is a perfect 29-0 in his career and coming off the first title defense of his WBO super-middleweight title against Marcelo Esteban Coceres by KO on the KSI vs. Logan Paul 2 undercard in November. Before that, he won the belt against Shefat Isufi. The Brit is also the former WBO middleweight champion and defended that belt three times.
The 31-year-old was linked to a superfight against Canelo Alvarez in May. However, the bout was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Months later Saunder was suspended by the British Boxing Board of Control as he shared a video promoting domestic violence as he used a punchbag to demonstrate how men could hit their female partners for “giving you mouth” during the shutdown.
Martin Murray, meanwhile, is 39-5-1 and on a two-fight winning streak. The 38-year-old last fought in November of last year beating Sladan Janjanin. He has fought for notable belts a couple of times but came up short to Gennadiy Golovkin by TKO, Sergio Martinez by decision, and Arthur Abraham by decision. He has the held the WBA interim middleweight title and British and Commonwealth middleweight titles in his career.
There is no question Billy Joe Saunders will be a big favorite heading into this fight. Perhaps, if he defends his belt, the Canelo Alvarez fight can come to fruition in 2021.
Who do you think will win, Billy Joe Saunders or Martin Murray?
